Red Lackey grew up in the small village of Hiddenite, NC, in the midst of the Great Depression. His experiences there shaped his values and the course of his life for decades to come. Despite the hard times that befell his youth, Red managed to work his way through college at what was then known as Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone. He went on to become a teacher and coach, businessman, politician, and loyal family man. Red has hundreds of stories to tell, all in his unique southern style. Two of those stories are featured here. |
